Looking for a Tera Raid Battle, events, symbols and Tera Types guide? Following the initial Tera Raid Battle reveal by the Ed Sheeran stan account, Pokemon the brand new mechanic has fans hammering Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. For those who haven’t or want some more information, we’ve broken down Tera Raid Battles, events, symbols and Tera Types in an easy-to-follow guide:
What Are Tera Raid Battles and Events?
Tera Raid Battles see you and up to three friends team up to take down a powerful Tera Pokemon against the clock. We’ve got more of a breakdown of what Tera Pokemon are here.
Tera Raid Battle Events are, confusingly, not quite the same thing as Tera Raid Battles. These are limited-time events that take loose inspiration from Pokemon Go’s Community Days. In a Tera Raid Battle Event, specific Pokemon will be more common.
The first Tera Raid Battle is called ‘The Eevee Spotlight’. No prizes for guessing which critter will be popping up more frequently then. It begins on the 24th of November and will run until the 27th of November.

What are Black Crystal Tera Raid Battles?
Black Crystal Tera Raid Battles take inspiration from Max Raids in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Pokemon you encounter during Black Crystal Tera Raid Battles are much stronger than those that appear at ordinary Tera Raid crystals. You can even get bigger and better prizes.
Move over Ed Sheeran, there’s a new orange lad in town.
Charizard (with the Mightiest Mark) will appear in black Tera Raid crystals from December 1st – 4th. Not free during those times? Don’t worry – it’ll be reappearing a second time from December 15th –18th.
“Charizard AGAIN?”, I hear you cry. True, it’s not even the best Gen 1 starter. However, The Pokemon Company has specified that Charizard cannot normally be encountered in Paldea (although it may appear again in other events or encounterable in future ways). Think you can just set up a Stealth Rocks and decimate half of its HP like usual? Think again – Charizard is free from the Heavy Boots curse. The Charizard appearing during this event has Dragon as its Tera Type.
Don’t forget! You’ll need to buy a Nintendo Switch Online membership to take part in online Tera Raid Battles. We have a feeling you’ll be needing to team up with the very best to take this beast down.
Tera Raid Symbols Explained
As previously mentioned, Pokemon now have a Tera Type in addition to its standard typings. This is turning the meta and competitive play of generation nine on its head, which isn’t a bad thing.
Tera Raid Symbols appear on players’ maps and represent the raid Pokemons Tera-Type. Naturally, these Tera Symbols are where players can join a raid and catch a unique Tera Pokemon. The raids themselves are easy enough to spot, with giant sparkling crystal formations peeking out of the ground and a well-lit beacon.
Tera Types And How To Change Them
There 18 Tera Types that are the same as the standard Pokemon typings:
- Bug
- Dark
- Dragon
- Electric
- Fairy
- Fighting
- Fire
- Flying
- Ghost
- Grass
- Ground
- Ice
- Poison
- Psychic
- Rock

Tera Shards of a specific Tera Type are needed to change a Pokemon’s Tera Type. Follow these simple steps below to change Tera Types:
- Collect 50 Tera Shards of the desired Tera typing by catching Tera Raid Pokemon
- Head over to the Medali Eatery (Players must have completed Larrys Gym Challenge for the normal type gym)
- Talk to the Sushi Chef who will be able to change a Pokemon’s Tera Typings.
