How To Get Shiny Pokemon In Pokemon Unite

Shiny Pokemon are uniquely coloured sprites that have been highly sought-after since their introduction to the franchise in Gold and Silver, released all the way back in 2001. The odds of encountering one of these coveted Pokemon can be as low as 1 in every 8192, or a probability of 0.01220703125% during each encounter. Particularly dedicated players have been known to reset their game over and over until they find a specific shiny, sometimes spending thousands of hours to catch these coveted Mons.

Pokemon Unite is a MOBA available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. It offers players a high level of customisation, letting them lay drip on their Trainers and Pokemon alike. Seriously, some of these Holowear options are pretty stylish. But as cool as they might be, a shiny Pokemon is always cooler.

Can You Get Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Unite?

Most other games within the franchise have the option for shiny Pokemon. However, because Pokemon Unite doesn’t have a standard capture system, you cannot currently get shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Unite.

However, not all hope is lost! In the latest Public Beta Test, popular YouTuber and Pokemon Unite caster spragels seemed to discover something that looked like a shiny Hoopa in his match. Take a look at the similarities for yourself.

Disappointingly, after some investigation, spragels claims it was just a bug. No official confirmation on shiny Pokemon coming to Pokemon Unite has been released yet. Despite this, some fans are still convinced shiny Pokemon could be on their way because of just how unnervingly similar this Hoopa looked to its shiny version. As one YouTuber in the comments puts it: “Maybe they’re working on making a shiny Pokemon event secretly and it accidentally got a bug”.

However, notable dataminer ElchicoEevee pointed out it could just be the offline model:

Because this is from the Public Beta Test, it’s understandable there would be some bugs. As ever, it’s best to wait for official confirmation from the Pokemon Unite Twitter account before getting too excited.

Which would you rather have? A chance for shiny Pokemon to appear at the start of the match? Or as a Holowear skin available for purchase?
