Gimmighoul is a brand new Ghost-type Pokemon introduced in the recently-released Scarlet and Violet. If you’ve been mooching around the open world of Paldea, you might’ve come across this peculiar little fellow hanging out in hard-to-reach spots. The Gimmighoul Pokemon has a few players stumped on how to catch and evolve it, as well as how and where to find it in Paldea.
Gimmighoul has two forms: Roaming Form and Chest Form. This guide will go over everything you need to know about how to catch and evolve both forms of Gimmighoul (or as I like to call it, the Reddit Mascot Pokemon) in Scarlet and Violet.

How to Catch Gimmighoul (Roaming Form)
According to its Pokedex entry, this Pokemon was born from passion that seeped into a coin. It wanders, apparently seeking to return to the treasure chest it once inhabited.
If you come across Roaming Form Gimmighoul in Paldea, they’ll only hand you a single Gold Coin. You can’t catch Gimmighoul in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Instead, you’ll need to log into Pokemon GO and find Roaming Form Gimmighoul in the real world! Unfortunately, it’ll be stuck on your phone until Scarlet and Violet get Pokemon Home connectivity early next year. We’ve got a breakdown of how to do this for you here.

How to Catch Gimmighoul (Chest Form)
Okay, so you can’t catch Roaming Form Gimmighoul. What about its Chest Form?
Chest Form Gimmighoul can appear randomly throughout Paldea, usually on top of watchtowers. It can be caught and added to your team in this form.

How To Evolve Gimmighoul
Gimmighoul evolves into Gholdengo – a Cheesestring Man on a budget. The Pokedex entry claims its body is made up of 1,000 coins and gets along well with others. Oddly specific, don’t you think?
Well, that’s because Gholdengo takes the coveted spot as the franchise’s 1000th pocket monster.
As a nod to this title, you need to collect 999 Gold Coins scattered across Paldea to evolve either Gimmighoul form into Gholdengo.
Once you’ve collected those coins, you just need to level up Gimmighoul once to trigger the evolution. Try doing Tera Raid Battles to bag yourself some EXP and Rare Candies to speed this process up!
That’s everything we know about how to catch and evolve Gimmighoul in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
